Courage, Change & Chance

It takes courage to take a chance on change.

"A good researcher should not be afraid to change his mind; he should not feel desperate because his comforting beliefs leave him as soon as he begins to think critically. "

Philip John Jones 1958-2009

Dear Readers,

It is with the greatest sadness that I must tell you that Philip Jones died this morning at the University Odense Hospital in Denmark.

He was loved by all who knew him and he will be dearly missed.

Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity, and we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved? If they ever tell my story, let them say I walked with "Giants." Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses; let them say I lived in the time of Achilles.

  1. This is a very sad day across the miles. A voice of hope and reason among us has been silenced, but not for good. We still have Philip’s many essays, all which are beacons
    on foggy seashores.

We question why the good die young, and why evil lives on. Perhaps there is no satisfying answer to that, except to say that some accomplish the good they came for in a short lifespan. That is Philip in a nutshell. We shall miss this good friend of ours.

  2. the saying goes, death is not always the end.
Who knows . . . perhaps another may arise and carry on the torch.
A few have to courage to expose of what goes on in the world.
Another saying goes, Truth can be cold and equally terrifying.
It only takes a single person to keep the flame from going out.

  3. We all going to miss him, he is now in a better place, so he must be giving a lot of joy in the other side.
